Energetic stable discretization for non-isothermal electrokinetics model

نویسندگان

چکیده

We propose an edge averaged finite element (EAFE) discretization to solve the Heat-PNP (Poisson-Nernst-Planck) equations approximately. Our method enforces positivity of computed charged density functions and temperature function. Also thermodynamic consistent discrete energy estimate which resembles second law system is prescribed. Numerical examples are provided.

Non-isothermal model for nematic spherulite growth.

A computational study of the growth of two-dimensional nematic spherulites in an isotropic phase was performed using a Landau-de Gennes-type quadrupolar tensor order parameter model for the first-order isotropic/nematic transition of 5CB (pentylcyanobiphenyl). An energy balance, taking anisotropy into account, was derived and incorporated into the time-dependent model. Growth laws were determin...

Isothermal and Non-isothermal Methods

a comparison was made between the experimental non-isothermal a vs. t curves and those calculated on the basis of a previous isothermal study. It was observed that for low heating rates, when the "thermal lag" is negligible, the dynamic measurements are in good agreement with the isothermal ones. Furthermore, for process (I), two mathematical methods proposed for the interpretation of the non-i...

One-dimensional and Non-isothermal Model for a Passive Dmfc

Passive direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) are promising energy sources for portable electronic devices. Different from DMFCs with active fuel feeding systems, passive DMFCs with nearly stagnant fuel and air tend to bear comparatively less power densities. A steady state, one-dimensional, multi-component and thermal model is described and applied to simulate the operation of a passive direct me...

A stable and linear time discretization for a thermodynamically consistent model for two-phase incompressible flow

A new time discretization scheme for the numerical simulation of two-phase ow governed by a thermodynamically consistent di use interface model is presented. The scheme is consistent in the sense that it allows for a discrete in time energy inequality. An adaptive spatial discretization is proposed that conserves the energy inequality in the fully discrete setting by applying a suitable post pr...
